New Hebrewbooks update

Some interesting seforim from the latest update:

1 - Lots of R A Ibn Ezra material (Ibn Ezra folklore?)

2- Mevaseret Tzion from Elykim Karmoli - apparently containing letters relating to the "lost" ten tribes. But Karmoli was known to be a forger..

3 - An "expose" on Sir Moses Montefiore by Ephraim Deinard. This is an extremely rare book (only five copies). Make sure to take a look at the last page.

4 - R NH Wiesel's Sefer HaMidot.

5 - Pesher Davar by Yaakov Reifmann

6 - R' Chaim Heller's Peshitta

7 - Solomon Schecter's first Genizah publication

8 - R' Yosef Zechariah Stern - Maamer Al Tahluchei Aggadot.

9 - Malter's critical edition of Taanis

10 - Palm Reading - for Dummies

[Update: Yitzhak suggests:

Four volumes of the בית עקד ספרים

Steinschneider's אלפא ביתא דבן סירא

Bernstein's editions the Diwans of Emanuel Frances and Leon Modena

The דור רביעי

Shraga Abramson's edition of the Nagid's בן משלי

Four more editions of the מבחר הפנינים, three attributed to the Bedarsi, and one to Ibn Gabirol

Rav Meir Arik's מנחת פתים ]

11 - HaTzofeh L'Chochmas Yisroel

  2. Does anyone know what is the policy over at hebrewbooks regarding the scanning of controversial works?

  3. Haven't looked at the list yet, but near the top is David Sassoon's catalog Ohel Dawid, which normally would set you back, oh $1000.

TMWTBH, I no of no policies of theirs, but judging by what they host their policy is to make as much as they can available, without judging works controversial or not.

  4. I see some Kehilos Yaakov by Rav Kanievsky, and Rav Nadel's work. So I wonder also about copyrights. These seforim are recent works.

  5. Rabbi Nadel is not a problem but Kehillatr Yaakov is a problem.

Yitzchak, your additions are important, will update.

So far Hebrewbooks is very good about not censoring, but they are getting some flak about including "maskilic" material and there is a real fear that they will have to stop. Not sure what can be done.

  6. 2191, can you elaborate on that? I assume you mean that the students of Rav Nadel gave permission, but why would KY be added without? What do you propose as a solution to those who want the maskilic seforim vs. those who don't?

  7. They got permission to put up Lieberman's 'hilchot yerushalmi"? People that don't want 'maskilic' stuff should not be on the internet in the first place.

They can create a Shaar Press version of Hebrewbooks. Call it Krumbooks, and upload them there.

But seriously, I will be really mad if/ when their critics succeed. In the meantime, download, download, download.

  9. FRED:

what is the shaar press version?

and don't worry about the critics. to the contrary . . .

    2191:

"This is an extremely rare book (only five copies)."

there are certainly more than 5 extant copies.

deinard already attacked monetfiore in his earlier divre ha-yamim le-tziyon be-rusiyah (accused him of misusing touro legacy funds)
